In their biggest test thus far this season, the Elk Grove baseball team, ranked seventh nationally by Maxpreps, shut out Valley Christian High School in San Jose Saturday, 4-0. Dave Smith threw a four-hitter, struck out six, walked none, but hit two batters in tossing a solid game.
Carlos Moseley had a two-run double in the fifth inning and Nick Madrigal had a two-RBI single in the seventh. The Herd will play Tuesday at St. Mary's, the defending Section champion in Division I.
