Seven Franklin Athletes Sign Letters of Intent

It was a big day of rejoicing around Franklin High School on Wednesday when seven athletes all inked national letters of intent to play collegiately next academic year.

Three football players – running back Christian Fonbuena, offensive tackle Bryce Mann and defensive back Marcus Green – joined a few others from around Elk Grove Unifield School District on Wednesday in a joint signing ceremony.

Back at the Franklin campus three members of the Wildcats’ girls soccer team – Tatyana Garrett, Lauren Aldan and Kaylah Valdry – and one member of the boys’ soccer squad, Alex Gulseth, had their own signing session. The girls then ran out to join their teammates, all preparing to try to make history.

You see, there’s never been a Sac-Joaquin Section championship in soccer from an EGUSD school. These girls were key parts of last season’s Division I runner-up squad. That was the first time any local team made it that far in the playoffs.

Watch and listen to my interview with Garrett, Aldan and Valdry ....
