After giving up a pair of runs Saturday in the 8th inning of the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 loss to the New York Mets, relief pitcher David Hernandez was demoted to Triple-A Reno.

The former Elk Grove H.S. and Cosumnes River College right-hander has now been scored upon in five of his last six appearances — giving up nine earned runs in five innings (16.20 ERA) in that span.

“It’s been a pretty rough year,” Hernandez told the Arizona Republic. “There’s no reason to go down and pout about it. I’ve been sent down before and I’ve always come back better. Hopefully, that’s what will happen.”

In 48 relief appearances with the D-backs, Hernandez is 4-6 with a 5.59 ERA.
