Louis Corpuz has brought Monterey Trail girls' basketball out of the depths of dispair. After years of poor team, Corpuz led the Mustangs to back-to-back Delta Valley Conference championships.
However, Corpuz was told Wednesday he will not be asked back to coach next season.
All he was told by Monterey Trail administration was that the school wanted to go a different direction. Read Jon Gudel's story in Friday's Citizen.
In baseball Wednesday, Elk Grove swept its three-game series with Monterey Trail by overwhelming the Mustangs, 14-3. Derek Hill had three hits and four RBI's. Nick Womack started and earned the win. Matt Walter had a pair of innings in relief.
On Tuesday, the Herd romped over the Mustangs, 21-1, as Austin del Chairo had four hits and five RBI's. Skyler Quam earned the win for Elk Grove.
