Bradley Selected For EGHS Basketball Job

Elk Grove High School has announced that Cosumnes River College assistant basketball coach Mat Bradley has been hired as the school's varsity coach. The announcement is a bit of a shock in that Herd assistant and alumnus Dustin Monday wasn't re-hired for the vacant post.

Monday guided the Herd two seasons ago when head coach Rudy Ortega, Jr., wanted a year off. Monday was rewarded for his efforts that season by being named Delta Valley Conference coach of the year. The Herd was 12-12 overall, 6-4 in conference play.

Ortega offered his resignation prior to the end of the school year and Monday took over the team's summer program, even coaching the team recently at the Sheldon-Monterey Trail Summer Jam.

“It’s not that I’m worried about wasting my time,” Monday told Citizen sports editor Jon Gudel. “I like being around the guys. I like being out here coaching. If I’m not the guy, so be it. I still want the program and these kids to be successful.”

Bradley coached Valley's program between 2008 and 2012.
