Three Local Baseball Teams Win Nor-Cals

Three local Cal Ripken League youth baseball teams have won their respective Nor-Cal State Tournaments and are now preparing for competition in the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournaments later this month.

Laguna Youth Baseball’s Age 12-and-under All-Stars won its state tournament Saturday by defeating the Elk Grove Youth Baseball’s squad twice. The tournament was held in Oakland.

The team, nicknamed the “Laguna Bandits,” is essentially the same group that took third place in the Cal Ripken World Series as ten-year-olds two years ago. The squad has won the state tournament in its age group five years in a row and has also taken the regional title three times.

The Bandits’ regional tournament will begin July 21.

Elk Grove Youth Baseball’s Age 11-and-under Gold team won its NorCal Tournament last week. That event was held at Rau Park.

The squad will advance to its regional tournament in Panguich, Utah, starting July 22. To help offset costs, the team will hold a car wash outside of Nor-Cal Fit on Elk Grove Blvd. Saturday and again on July 20 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

They are also selling a spot on a sponsorship shirt that players will wear around town. Cost for one spot on the shirt is $200.

The Age 9-and-under all-stars from Elk Grove won its NorCal Tournament played in Rohnert Park. They will be putting on a pair of fundraisers to help alleviate costs to travel to Riverton, Utah, for the Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament.

On Saturday, the team will be washing cars at the Chevron on Sheldon Road next to Winco. Later in the evening, the parents will be putting on a poker tournament at Nor-Cal Fit on Elk Grove Blvd. beginning at 6 p.m. Cost to enter is $40 with only 50 slots available.
