The top wrestlers in our area will all be at the Stockton Arena today for the start of the Sac-Joaquin Section wrestling meet. The top seven in each weight class will qualify for the State Wrestling Tournament in Bakersfield the following weekend.
All 14 Elk Grove High School wrestlers are in Stockton along with eight from both Sheldon and Franklin. That's a big contingent. Six from Cosumnes Oaks will also compete, with four from Pleasant Grove.
Watch for Martin Ramirez of Elk Grove go for his third straight Masters' championship. He's wrestling at 132 pounds this year. Josh Letuligasenoa could take the 220-pound title, along with Scott Votino at 170 pounds.
Alhan Cuevas of Burbank could also make noise at 195 pounds. He's the Division II champion at that weight.
I'll have results tomorrow night.
