Franklin's Blake Pitches Wildcats Into D-1 Winners' Bracket

Franklin left-handed pitcher Tyler Blake scattered seven hits and threw a complete game win as the Wildcats defeated Elk Grove, 9-1, Saturday in a second round contest in the Sac-Joaquin Section's Division I North baseball playoffs.

Blake backed up his pitching performance with a key RBI single in a six-run third inning. Just prior to his hit, Josh Pigg drove in a pair of runs with a single to right. Later in the inning, Kyle VonRuden stroked a  bases-loaded triple off Elk Grove starter and losing pitcher Craig Dowell.

Pigg added another RBI in the sixth inning, scoring Ryan Sarginson who had previously doubled down the right field line.

The Wildcats had ten hits in the game and have set up a winners' bracket game against Davis, another Delta Valley Conference foe, on Tuesday night at Sacramento City College. The Blue Devils defeated Vacaville, 4-3 in eight innings, in an earlier game Saturday.

Franklin head coach Bryan Kilby said he will send VonRuden to the mound to face Davis.

Elk Grove will now take on Vacaville in an elimination game Monday night.
